The new public library passed another milestone with the project put out to bid to find a contractor to construct the building.
The response deadline for vendors to submit bids is July 26, with bids opened that morning at the library, said library director Marilynn G. Mullen on Wednesday.
So far, $2.59 million has been raised for the project, $177,000 less than estimated construction costs. Library officials will not know for certain how much the project will cost until bids come back.
"Until you go out to bid, you really don’t know," Mullen said. "We think we have very good estimates."
In a best-case scenario, the library – due to be roughly at a little less than 12,000 square feet – could have a groundbreaking in September, she said. The move into the building could occur next spring or summer.
