Primary school principal tapped to lead middle school

MILLSTONE – Trish Bogusz, the principal of the Millstone Township Primary School, has been named principal of the Millstone Township Middle School.

Bogusz will succeed Christopher Huss as principal of the middle school. Huss was recently selected by the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education as the district’s next superintendent of schools.

Superintendent of Schools Scott Feder, who is leaving the district by the end of June, announced Bogusz’s selection and appointment in a letter dated June 13. He said Bogusz was appointed as the middle school’s principal on June 12 by the board on the recommendation of Huss.

Bogusz will become principal of the middle school on July 1, according to Feder, which is the same day Huss will become superintendent.

“Mrs. Bogusz is going to be a phenomenal middle school principal,” Huss said. “She is an experienced administrator with a solid foundation in curriculum and instructional practices, and she is a thoughtful decision maker.

“Not many newly appointed superintendents have the chance to choose their successor at the building level, but I have been lucky enough to do just that. I am confident Mrs. Bogusz will excel in her new role and I am happy to be able to hand the reins to the middle school over to her capable hands,” Huss said.

According to Feder, Bogusz has worked in education for 22 years and has served as a primary grade teacher, a reading coach and literary specialist, and the assistant principal of the middle school before becoming the primary school’s principal. She currently serves on the district’s high school articulation committee.

“We are confident in Trish’s leadership abilities and are all looking forward to many future successes under her direction,” Feder wrote. “Trish is excited about rejoining the middle school staff as they begin to incorporate personalized learning and its tenets into their current teaching. She believes it is important to know students both as learners and as people in order to support them in their educational journey.

“Trish looks forward to standing side by side with our teachers and families as they continue to work in partnership to prepare our middle school students,” Feder wrote. “We are without a doubt proud to have her in this new role.”

Bogusz is a resident of Millstone. She majored in K-8 education and English at Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), Ewing, and earned a master’s degree in reading from Montclair State University, Montclair. She received supervisory and principal certification from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, North Adams, Mass.

“I began working in Millstone in 2002 as a literacy coach and then became the assistant principal at the middle school under the guidance of [current Director of Curriculum and Instruction] Karen Barry as my principal in 2010,” Bogusz said. “While there, we worked with an amazing staff and were able to accomplish great things with our students and families.

“The opening at the primary school occurred in 2011 and it was an opportunity I could not pass,” Bogusz said. “I have enjoyed my time with our youngest learners and have worked with an exceptional staff at the primary school, but I have not forgotten the sense of pride that comes with being a middle school educator.

“When the possibility to rejoin the staff came about, I felt compelled to return and work with an amazing community of learners once again. I am looking forward to this fall with excitement and want to thank Dr. Huss and the board for providing me the opportunity.”
