Suspicious package located outside of U.S. Air Force center deemed safe

EAST BRUNSWICK – East Brunswick police responded to the U.S. Air Force Recruiting Office on Route 18 due to a suspicious package located in front of the building.

A large brown paper shopping bag which contained a Tiki torch bottle containing an unknown liquid sticking out of the top of the bag was located around 10:34 a.m. June 26, according to Lt. Sean Goggins, the East Brunswick Police Department’s public information officer.

The building was evacuated. East Brunswick Independent Fire Company and Atlantic Rescue Squad responded and were placed on standby, according to Goggins.

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department also responded with a K9 with members of the New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit and East Brunswick Office of Emergency Management, according to Goggins.

The suspicious package was deemed safe and recovered by East Brunswick detectives.
