MILLSTONE – After a tenure of six years, Scott Feder has departed from the Millstone Township K-8 School District as its superintendent of schools.
Feder announced his resignation from Millstone in March to become superintendent of the South Brunswick School District in Middlesex County. His resignation became effective on June 30 and he assumed his new position in South Brunswick on July 1.
Feder’s final Board of Education meeting as Millstone’s superintendent was on June 26. Board members praised his work in the district and credited Feder with helping to improve Millstone’s schools during his tenure.
“It has been an extreme pleasure to work with you,” board member Margaret Gordon said to Feder. “I appreciate everything you have done.”
“I got to be the guy to call you” about being appointed superintendent, board member Kevin McGovern said. “This place was not good at the time. You have transformed the district in ways I could not have imagined.”
“Appointing a superintendent is the most important decision you have as a board member,” David DePinho said, adding that Feder “brought this district to another place.”
“I make it a personal goal to improve and leave every situation better than when it was found,” board Vice President Melissa Riviello said. “You [Feder] have done that with Millstone. We are headed in the right trajectory.”
Feder “turned the district around,” board President Sal Casale said.
In turn, Feder praised the members of the board.
“The board has been the most supportive group of people,” he said. “This board supports education. You will keep seeing great things happening in Millstone with this board.”
Feder said the board recently provided funding to pupils from the Millstone Township Elementary School which allowed the youngsters to travel to Wisconsin to participate in an international competition, where they earned top honors.
Selected by the board to succeed Feder as superintendent was Christopher Huss, who had been serving as principal of the Millstone Township Middle School.
Huss was succeeded as middle school principal by Trish Bogusz, the previous principal of the Millstone Township Primary School. Huss and Bogusz began their new roles on July 1.
Bogusz, a township resident who has had children in the district, also praised Feder during the board meeting.
“The word to describe this place before the Scott Feder era was ‘broken,’ ” she said. “Now kids come first and decisions are made with honesty, integrity and a bit of humor.”
