Jackson council approves spending for improvements

JACKSON – The Township Council has adopted a bond ordinance that will provide funding for projects throughout the township.

The council took the action at its meeting on June 13. No one from the public commented on the ordinance when given the opportunity to do so.

The ordinance provides for capital improvements and the acquisition of capital equipment. Municipal officials appropriated $2.2 million and authorized the issuance of $2.1 million in bonds and notes to finance a portion of the cost.

More than $1 million will be used for road, drainage and sidewalk improvements.

More than $700,000 will be used for Department of Public Works projects and repairs which include, but are not limited to, heating, ventilation and air conditioning improvements, front walk improvements at the municipal building, expanding the Jackson Police Department parking lot, park improvements and other miscellaneous building improvements, according to the ordinance.

Capital equipment to be acquired includes a vehicle for the tax assessor’s office at an estimated cost of $28,750, and police equipment including, but not limited to, the purchase of five new police vehicles, and equipment to outfit six new police vehicles including lights, computers and mobile video. The estimated cost of the police vehicles and equipment is $313,950, according to the ordinance.
