SAYREVILLE – The Sayreville Board of Education is taking action to protect the district’s online network.
The board approved a resolution purchasing $591,418 in Cisco Firewall network security system products and security software/services from Presidio and entered into an equipment lease purchase agreement with De Lage Landen Public Finance, LLC, during the June 27 school board meeting.
According to the resolution, Cisco Capital offered to finance the board’s purchase of the firewall and associated security software at an interest rate of zero percent over a three-year term.
Director of Special Projects and Technology Eric Glock-Molloy said the firewall has an automatic screening feature which would allow district personnel to automatically detect an infiltration into the network.
Glock-Molloy, who will serve as assistant superintendent of information technology and operations for the 2017-18 school year, added that instead of only receiving the software needed to operate the firewall from Cisco, district personnel will be able to engage in a licensing agreement, granting the district Cisco’s entire suite of software security.
“It will be a comprehensive security plan beyond the firewall,” Glock-Molloy said.
Additionally, the board appointed Michael Waranowicz to the new position of director of Technology Operations and Digital Security.
Waranowicz, the district’s network administrator, will assume his new role on July 1 for 2017-18. He will receive an annual salary of $85,000.
“After a long search, we found ourselves an incredible candidate for director of Technology Operations and Digital Security,” Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe said. “[Waranowicz] is, by far, the most qualified person I can think of for this position. He has done an amazing job since he has been in our district.
“He is, along with Mr. Glock, one of the experts in this district when it comes to technology, and certainly one of the most integral members of our technology team [who] has helped us to effectuate the many technological advances that we made in this district,” Labbe said. “It gives me absolute great pride to recommend to you his appointment this evening.”
In other business, the board approved a resolution awarding a three-year contract to Cablevision Lightpath, Inc. for a private fiber network and internet/voice bundle services.
The private fiber network will be $11,400 per month, the internet services will be $2,200 per month and the voice services will be $1,130 per month.
Finally, the board approved the donation of an interactive whiteboard valued at $2,199 from the Woodrow Wilson Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.
