Millstone moves forward with road improvements

MILLSTONE – Municipal officials have advanced a project to improve Millstone Township’s roads during 2017.

On July 5, members of the Township Committee adopted a bond ordinance providing an appropriation of $640,000 for the 2017 road improvement program. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $608,000 in bonds or notes to finance part of the appropriation.

According to the ordinance, the road improvement program includes, but is not limited to, upgrades to Pine Drive, Old Noah Hunt Road from Pine Drive to Joan Drive, Deer Trail Drive, Gravatt Circle, a portion of Agress Road and various drainage and pavement repairs throughout Millstone.

According to the ordinance, $32,000 will be made as a down payment on the improvements.

Mayor Michael Kuczinski, Deputy Mayor Fiore Masci and committee members Gary Dorfman and Nancy Grbelja voted to adopt the bond ordinance. Committeeman Bob Kinsey was absent.

In other business, committee members passed a resolution approving a $128,413 change order for the township’s 2016 road improvement project. The resolution increased Millstone’s contract with Meco Inc. for road improvements from $689,343 to $817,756.

The change order is the result of additional work that was performed at the township’s request, including milling and paving of Timmons Hill Drive and Millstone Road, and drainage inlet repairs, according to the resolution.

The committee also passed a resolution approving a $5,900 change order for drainage improvements at Crest Circle Drive and Perrine Circle, increasing Millstone’s contract with All Ways Trucking and Excavating from $29,650 to $35,550.

Additionally, committee members passed a resolution appointing Christopher Hart as a part-time maintenance custodian. Hart’s position became effective on July 10 and he will receive a salary of $14.50 per hour.

Finally, the committee passed a resolution appointing Roman Janocha as a full-time Department of Public Works laborer. Janocha’s salary will begin at $14.50 per hour and will increase to $15.50 per hour on Feb. 1, 2018.
