SOUTH RIVER – Aiming to provide more educational services to residents on the northern side of the borough, South River Library Director Evalina Scheidegger is introducing a satellite library program.

“Our goal is to make library services accessible to as many residents as possible, as was determined during our strategic planning process,” Scheidegger said.

The satellite program is designed to make a limited number of services accessible to an increasing number of residents north of Main Street who do not have transportation to the main branch at 55 Appleby Ave., Scheidegger told the Borough Council during a meeting on June 26.

“During our strategic planning process in 2016, one of the main concerns expressed by our residents was the location of the library at the south end of town. Many asked for a location near the old library on Main Street. As a result, one of our goals is to provide service at a satellite location for residents north of Main Street,” Scheidegger said.

The eight-week program will begin July 12. The new location will open on Wednesdays, though the new location has yet to be determined, according to Scheidegger.

“Our current plan is to make computers available for internet access; provide reading material with a ‘free’ library, [which is] books that were donated but not part of our regular collection, not part of our cataloged collection and a library card is not needed; family programs such as movies, game night, crafts and story time; and other programs depending on interest,” Scheidegger said.

The library director said information will be posted on the library website, on TV35 and through other municipal information outlets once details are finalized.
