HOLMDEL–The Township committee approved a resolution to hire two new police officers, Michael Molan and Cara Davis.

Prior to approving several resolutions, the council added and passed an additional resolution that was not on the consent agenda in order to hire the officers.

The additional resolution was added so that the two officers could attend the police academy on July 31. The two new officers will replace an officer who retired and another who resigned, according to Township Administrator Donna Vieiro.

The committee also approved a resolution to reduce the performance and cash bonds for Holmdel Fields Phase two, on July 11.

A performance bond must be posted by a developer before construction begins on a project, according to Planning Board Secretary Bonnie Imposimato.

Holmdel Fields Phase two involves 19 lots that are currently under construction off of Holmdel Road, according to Imposimato.

The committee passed the resolution which will reduce the performance bond from $1,665,369 to $499,610.70.

Work has been progressing on the project and the developer has requested that the performance bond be reduced to reflect the improvements installed to date, according to the consent agenda.

Township Engineer Edward Broberg has inspected the site to determine the bondable improvements installed and stated in a letter dated June 30 that the performance guarantee may be reduced with respect to approved improvements except for that portion adequately sufficient to ensure completion or correction of improvements not yet approved, according to the consent agenda.

By approving the resolution the performance cash bond for Holmdel Fields Phase two will also be reduced from $185,041 to $55,512.30, according to the consent agenda.

Before beginning its regular meeting the committee went into an executive session to discuss potential litigation in the matter of affordable housing.

After the committee ended its executive session no formal decision was on the matter, according to Township Clerk Maureen Doloughty.

Currently, the township is in an ongoing civil case with New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) due to the company appealing/contesting the zoning board’s decision to deny its plans to build a regulator station on Holmdel Road.

Township Attorney Michael Collins said that the public evidentiary hearing that was scheduled on July 13 at the New Jersey Office of Administrative Law in Mercerville has been cancelled and that the township has not been made aware yet of a replacement date.
