South River police charge residents with cocaine, handgun possession

SOUTH RIVER – Police seized more than 33 grams of cocaine along with marijuana and a handgun during a raid at a South River residence.

Members of the South River Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Squad executed a court-approved search warrant at a residence on Ferry Street around 6:30 a.m. July 6. The search warrant was a result of a narcotics investigation conducted by South River Police Department Detective Bureau, according to information provided by the South River Police Department.

Two residents, identified as a 34-year-old male and a 29-year-old female, were charged with possession/possession with the intent to distribute of more than a half ounce of cocaine, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Additionally, a suspect and another male resident were charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.

After processing, the male allegedly found with the marijuana was released pending a court date at South River Municipal Court. The 34-year-old male and the female were transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center awaiting court proceedings, according to police.
