HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: School board hopefuls running out of time to file for candidacy

Lea Kahn, Staff Writer
Hopewell Township residents have 10 days to left to file to seek one of three available seat on the Hopewell Valley Regional School District Board of Education.
The deadline to file is July 31 at 4 p.m. Nominating petitions, signed by 10 registered voters, must be turned in to the Mercer County Clerk’s Office in Trenton by that date.
The school board election is Nov. 7.
The terms of Roy Dollard, Alyce Murray and Adam J. Sawicki – all of whom represent Hopewell Township – are expiring. Dollard, who is completing his third, three-year term, is not seeking re-election.
Seven of the nine members of the Hopewell Valley Regional School District Board of Education represent Hopewell Township. Pennington Borough and Hopewell Borough have one representative each.
Candidates for school board must be 18 years old, able to read and write, and hold U.S. citizenship. They must have lived in the school district for at least one year, and be registered to vote.
They may not have an interest in any contract, or hold a claim, against the school board. They may not serve on the municipal governing body, and may not be disqualified from holding office because of conviction of certain crimes.
Nominating petitions are available for pickup at the school district’s Business Office, through the Mercer County Clerk’s Office, or online at the school district’s website at www.hvrsd.org.
