Monroe library events include discussions on war

A number of events are planned for August at the Monroe Township Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, Monroe.

A World War I Short Story Book Discussion will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 8 and at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 15. The  stories from “No Man’s Land: Fiction from a World at War “edited by Pete Ayrton will be discussed.

A Coffee and a Book event will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 15 focusing on discussions of “Rules of Civility” by Amor Towles.

At 1 p.m. on Aug. 15, 22 and 29, patrons will be able to brush up on their United States history from the War of 1812 through Reconstruction in a 14-session series. There will be two 30-minute DVD lectures, followed by a brief discussion and light refreshments.

There will be a Young Adult College Information Workshop at 7 p.m. on Aug. 16 for parents and students entering grades 8-12. Each student and parent must pre-register.

At 6 p.m. on Aug. 22, World War I historian Mike O’Neal will present NJ Aviators in the Great War.
