Freehold Township Little League heads to World Series championship game

The Freehold Township Little League 13U team has moved on to the championship game of the Intermediate 50/70 Baseball League World Series after an improbable comeback.

Freehold Township won, 5-4, against the team from Danville, California, on Aug. 3 to advance to the championship game in Livermore, California. Freehold Township was trailing, 4-0, in the last inning and down to its final strike before hitting a grand slam to tie the game. Freehold Township went on to score one more run in the next inning to secure the victory.

Freehold Township had lost its first game to Danville, 3-2, on July 30. Since then, it has beaten Indiana, 7-2, on Aug. 1, Texas, 2-0, on Aug. 2 and Danville on Aug. 3 to stay alive in the tournament.

Freehold Township will play on Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. against Hawaii. The game will be on ESPN 3. You can also watch the game at freehold12u.us.
