CASA for Children, a non-profit organization working to help foster children in Monmouth County, is seeking community volunteers.
The children in this organization have been neglected and have been removed from their homes due to extreme parental abuse, neglect or abandonment. CASA looks to ensure that each child obtains the services they need and that their case does no languish in the welfare system, while helping the child move toward a permanent home.
However, as the amount of children in CASA grows each year, the organization is seeking more volunteers to help advocate for these children entering the welfare and court systems.
CASA volunteers are willing to speak up for their respective child, and work in the child’s best interest by providing the court the most up to date information so that they may make the best decisions possible. Volunteers also make sure the child is safe, well cared-for and are receiving the services they need.
Cindi Van Brunt, executive director for CASA of Monmouth County, said that all a volunteer needs “is compassion, objectivity, and a commitment to children. We’ll train and supervise them to be effective voices in court.”
CASA volunteers are diverse and do not come from a specific background. Nonetheless, they all are committed to helping neglected children.
“They are ordinary individuals who rise to the extraordinary by making a difference in the life of a child,” Cindi Can Brunt explained.
CASA for Children is the only program in New Jersey that uses trained volunteers appointed by the court to serve each child individually. The organization strives to provide each child with a safe and loving home.
