Between blasting home runs and converting double plays, the North Edison 12U Little League team had a lot to be proud of when it visited fabled Cooperstown in New York for its annual tournament.

The Edison baseball team flourished on its trip from July 22-28 to the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

While there, the team competed in many skills competitions, as well as in the Cooperstown tournament, competing against 50 teams from around the country, according to assistant coach Jim Casey.

“Every year, North Edison Baseball and Softball (NEBS) sends a 12U boys’ team up there,” Casey said. “We do a year’s worth of fundraising to get the kids there. The team always looks forward to their 12-year-old year so they can get a chance to go.”

This year’s team was successful during the competitions. Edison’s Mihir Patel won the Home Run Derby, hitting 13 home runs. Will Giovenco, Nico Buglioli and Dylan Casey won the competition for Fastest Double Play, converting the feat in only 2.38 seconds. And in the tournament, the team went 3-3 in league play and 1-1 in the playoffs.

The team consisted of Francesco Rossiter, William Giovenco, Andrew Allen, Nico Buglioli, Samay Nandwana, Sam Reichel, Matthew Jason, Vincent Genna, Ayush Desai, Dylan Casey and Mihir Patel.

“We brought 11 kids there, and everyone of them had a great moment during the week,” Casey said. “That was the best part. Everyone had fun, and everyone contributed to the team’s success.”

The Edison Boys Baseball Little League team also participated in the competition that week.
