KEYPORT For his strong academic scores and community assistance, eighth grade graduate Jayden Graham received this year’s Keyport Central School Mayor’s Award.

Mayor Harry Aumack presented the award to Jayden during the Keyport Central School’s graduation ceremony, on June 16, at the school’s gymnasium, located at 335 Broad St.

The award was created about 10 years ago, to recognize an eighth grade graduate for community service, according to Aumack.

“Jayden was selected based on his acceptable school grades and his being a member of, and very active in, both the Keyport First Aid Squad Cadets and the Keyport Fire Department Cadets,” Aumack said.

The winner is decided by the mayor, assisted by his office staff and a member of the borough’s central school faculty. The mayor makes the final decision, according to Aumack.

“It was an honor to be chosen,” Jayden said. “It was a big surprise that felt great.”

Currently Jayden is still involved with the Keyport First Aid Squad Cadets and the Keyport Fire Department Cadets, but he explained that he is “more active with the Fire Department Cadets at this time.”

A member of the First Aid Squad Cadets, Jayden said, “I am friendly with members of the Keyport First Aid Squad, I was curious and encouraged to join.”

Once he decided to join the Fire Department Cadets, Jayden said,”I come from a family of firefighters and want to be involved.”

While at Keyport Central School, Jayden was a member of the Safety Patrol and also played on the baseball team and was one of three co-captains, according to Jayden.

Entering into his freshman year of high school Jayden said, “I plan to try out for the baseball and bowling teams. I don’t know many of the groups they have there yet.”
