Church members, Linwood staff improve courtyard at middle school

NORTH BRUNSWICK – Point Community Church of North Brunswick canceled its regular worship services at Linwood Middle School (LMS) in order to partner with the faculty and staff of the school to completely redo the main courtyard.

During the week prior to the event, the grounds crew for the North Brunswick School District was to Rototill (aerate) the grass.
Principal Roy Wilson received funding for a delivery of mulch and flowers and plants.
The group then planted an herb garden, butterfly garden and native plant garden during the church’s “Serve Sunday” event on Aug. 20, according to information provided by Tony Yuhas, pastor of the church.
Richard Weidman from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County worked with the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station mapped out a plan for the garden.
More than 60 adults and children helped with the yardwork.
The Parent Teacher Student Organization from Linwood provided refreshments.
The efforts were completed prior to celebrating Linwood Day on Sept. 16, a day for the community to come and enjoy the school and courtyard with many community business and organizations, according to Yuhas.
