Producer of ‘Beyond Standing Rock’ will answer questions after documentary

A day full of costumes and dancers during the Raritan Native American Heritage Celebration at the Middlesex County Faigrounds on June 18.

The East Brunswick Library will show the 2017 documentary “Beyond Standing Rock” at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the library, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center Dr.

“Beyond Standing Rock” takes a close-up look at the controversy on the front lines of the Dakota Pipeline. The film investigates the collision of energy development with Native American rights and sovereignty. It shares three stories focusing on the Standing Rock Sioux and the Dakota Access Pipeline, the Southern Ute Tribe energy development, and a coalition of tribe sin the Four Corners region, fighting for control of the Bears Ears National Monument.

Following the screening, there will be a question-and-answer session with the film’s producer Leigh Paterson.

“Beyond Standing Rock” is not rated and runs 71 minutes.

The screening and program is co-sponsored by the East Brunswick Human Relations Council. Registration for this free event is not required.
