YMCA of MEWSA will recognize Sept. 11 with service projects

METUCHEN — The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge and South Amboy will recognize the 2017 September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance by bringing YMCA staff and volunteers together with other civic groups to perform a service project in each of the three communities served by a YMCA membership facility — Metuchen, Edison and South Amboy.

The Metuchen YMCA will partner with the Metuchen Department of Public Works to spruce up the area around Metuchen’s Freedom Plaza. This project will take place on Friday, September 8 to have the plaza ready for the September 11 Memorial Service.

The South Amboy YMCA, partnering with Operation Gratitude, will hold a collection drive for care box items to be sent to those who served to say thank you and in appreciation. The collection will take place in the lobby of the South Amboy YMCA from August 1 to September 11. On September 11 the YMCA will host a station for those who wish to write a note or create a drawing to be included in the care packages.

Representatives of the Edison YMCA will visit the Menlo Park Veterans Home on September 11 to engage with veterans during the Trivia Town Square event at 10 a.m. and lead the group’s exercise program from 11 a.m. to noon.

The YMCA of MEWSA’s September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Metuchen and Woodbridge Farmers Insurance Agencies.
