Bows raise awareness of cancers

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Four residents are working to make the public aware of different cancers through a campaign that features the sale of ribbons of different colors.

On Oct. 1 (rescheduled from Sept. 30), Michele Thompson, Barbara Gandolfo, Jessica Walsh and Jill Rothstein will be at the municipal building at 9 a.m. as part of the Bows of Hope campaign.

The goal of Bows of Hope is to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer and childhood cancer through the display of colored ribbons throughout the community.

The Oct. 1 event will recognize breast cancer awareness efforts. Ovarian cancer and childhood cancer awareness were highlighted on Aug. 26. At 9 a.m. Nov. 4, the women will return to town hall to promote pancreatic cancer awareness.

September highlights awareness of ovarian cancer and childhood cancer. October is dedicated to the awareness of breast cancer. November highlights awareness of pancreatic cancer.

Teal ribbons represent awareness of ovarian cancer, pink ribbons represent awareness of breast cancer, purple ribbons represent awareness of pancreatic cancer and gold ribbons represent awareness of childhood cancer.
