SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Two firefighters were injured during a fire that rendered a hotel on Route 1 uninhabitable.

The call went to a second alarm, which in addition to the three township fire departments and squads brought in resources from Plainsboro Fire, Little Rocky Hill Fire, North Brunswick Fire Co. No. 3, Plainsboro First Aid and the Middlesex County Mutual-Aid Fire Coordinators, according to the statement.

In all, more than 60 firefighters were on scene. Units from Princeton Fire, Rocky Hill Fire and Griggstown Fire with a total of 15 additional firefighters provided coverage for the town, according to officials.

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital for exhaustion and later released.

While the fire was contained to the vicinity of the original fire room, the motel was left uninhabitable due to the inability to isolate and restore the power, according to the statement. The occupants of 50 rooms were all relocated to a different area hotel.

The last fire units cleared the scene at approximately 11:45 p.m.

The exact cause remains under investigation by the South Brunswick Fire Marshal office, but does not appear suspicious, officials said.
