FREEHOLD – Voting is underway in Freehold Borough on projects that residents and business owners want to receive municipal funding. Voting began on Sept. 11 and will continue through Sept. 17.
Residents and business owners are deciding how $200,000 from the 2017 municipal budget will be spent by voting on numerous projects that have been proposed.
The allocation of the $200,000 will be determined by the number of votes each project receives and the amount of money remaining to fund the projects, according to municipal officials.
The vote is part of the borough’s participatory budgeting project.
Eligible voters have the option of using a paper ballot or voting online at www.freeholdboroughnj.gov. All residents age 14 and older are eligible to vote on the projects. Business owners, even if they are not borough residents, are also be eligible to vote.
Winners will be announced on Sept. 26 at www.freeholdboroughnj.gov
The proposed projects are:
• Two tables to be installed in a park as concrete chess tables
• An off-leash park for dogs
• Two dozen litter receptacles and two public hydration stations
• Drinking fountains at Lake Topanemus
• A floating pier at Lake Topanemus
• A pedestrian bridge by the Lake Topanemus dam
• Two “Welcome to Freehold” signs
• Two digital speed signs to be placed on Dutch Lane Road
• A sidewalk repair program
• A sidewalk on one side of Ann Street from Route 33 to Manalapan Avenue
• A free wi-fi system in the downtown area
• Five additional street lights in the downtown area.
