Donations for Harvey accepted through Sept. 23

SAYREVILLE – A non-profit charity based in Sayreville is holding a drive to assist those in Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The charity drive, organized by Bridges of Peace, will be held through Sept. 23.

Items sought for collection, according to charity representatives, include baby items, personal hygiene products, first aid supplies, water, nonperishable food, new towels, wash clothes, linens, blankets and new clothing.

According to charity representatives, the items will be brought to a tractor trailer, located at 277 Johnson Lane, behind the Emma L. Arleth Elementary School. Donations may be delivered directly to the trailer from 4-8 p.m.

The tractor trailer will deliver the donated items to the San Antonio Food Bank in Texas.

Other locations where donations may be delivered are Sayreville Borough Hall, 167 Main St.; Sayreville Senior Center, 423 Main St.; the Morgan First Aid Squad, 1960 Route 35; Sayreville United Methodist Church, 406 Main St.; and Assemblyman John Wisniewski’s legislative office, 132 Main St.

Donations will also be accepted during Sayreville Day, Sept. 17 at Kennedy Park, 807 Washington Road.

Students in the Sayreville School District may deliver donations to their respective schools, according to charity representatives.

In addition to donated items, monetary donations may be made to the charity’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bridgesofpeace or by check. Charity representatives stated that money donations will be allocated towards fuel costs associated with transporting the items, and any excess money will be sent to local food banks in Texas.

On Sept. 23, the final day of the donation drive, Bridges of Peace will hold an event from 2-6 p.m. at the Buddies Tavern & Banquet Hall, 277 Johnson Lane. According to charity representatives, the even will feature music, a deejay, a raffle and more.

Donations for the event will be $10 for adults, $5 for children under 9 years of age and free admission for children under 2 years of ago.
