JACKSON – Police officers arrested a 45-year-old man and charged him with breaking into a vending machine in the early morning hours of Sept. 9.
At 12:59 a.m., Officer Edward Travisano responded to a report that an individual was attempting to pry open a vending machine outside a firehouse on Miller Avenue.
Police said Travisano saw the individual trying to pry open the vending machine, identified himself and ordered the person to stop. The individual ran from the area and a foot pursuit ensued.
Travisano caught the suspect and took him into custody with proceeds from the incident and with a hammer and pry tool. Officers Chris Schinder and Wes Thomason assisted Travisano at the scene.
Police subsequently determined that vending machines outside the Cassville firehouse on Toms River Road and outside a gas station on West Commodore Boulevard were broken into.
The man who was arrested following the incident on Miller Avenue was charged with criminal mischief, theft, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest. He was initially placed in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River.

• At 1:30 a.m. Sept. 9, officers Michael Goelz and Phil Minissale responded to a playground at Three Pence Brook to investigate a report of an intoxicated man who was acting in an aggressive manner.
The officers located a 51-year-old intoxicated male who was acting irrationally and making suicidal statements. The man was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Police said there was an outstanding warrant for the individual’s arrest from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, which was contacted and asked to have officers respond to the hospital.
• At 2:16 p.m. Sept. 10, police were informed that merchandise valued in excess of $900 was stolen from the Calvin Klein store at the Jackson Premium Outlets, Route 537.
• At 8:44 p.m. Sept. 10, Officer David Watson responded to a parking lot on West County Line Road to investigate a report that a 22-year-old male had ingested an unknown substance in what was reported to be an attempted suicide. The antidote Narcan was administered to the man, who was treated by first aid personnel and transported to a hospital for further treatment.
