NEW BRUNSWICK — An Edison man was charged with allegedly using more than $150,000 from people he entered into business with for personal gain at restaurants, bars and to pay personal bills, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department.
Weide “David” Dai, 37, was arrested and charged on Sept. 14 with one count of movable property in the second degree, for theft in excess of $75,000.
During the joint investigation with Police Sgt. Thierry Lemmerling of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Ryan Tighe of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, it was determined that since April 2015, Dai established four businesses in New Jersey to receive funds from the victims he agreed to go into business with for the purpose of exporting lumber to China.
Dai’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 12 in Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick.
