“GOD in the abstract” exhibit opens Sept. 23

The artwork depicting the 10 years of civil war in Sierra Leone as well as 13 prints of noted African and African-American luminaries are being exhibited in Richmond Garrick's first solo show called "Noble Expressions" at Middlesex County College celebrating Black History Month in February.

“GOD in the abstract,” an exhibit of all abstract art, will open with a reception from 2-5 p.m. on Sept. 23 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 17 Oak Ave., Metuchen.

Some 31 pieces were selected out of 300 submitted works from 27 artists, both local and from all over the United States including Hollywood and Placentia, California, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Georgetown, Texas and Wenatchee, Washington.

The exhibit includes work of every media, from bronze and glass sculptures to photography to painting as well as digital art. Phoebe Pollinger, of Montclair, and Harry Simon, of Morristown, will speak at the Opening about the work they selected and why they saw those pieces of art as strong examples of abstraction.

“GOD in the abstract” exhibit will remain on view through Dec. 31.

The reception and gallery is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be donated by The Metuchen Inn and live music will be provided by the Westerhoff School of Music faculty.
