An undefeated record this season has not satisfied the Metuchen High School girls’ soccer team.
“We need to be more consistent passing the ball,” coach Mike Noth said. “We’re not linking up with possession passes as well as I would like.”
Noth discussed this just after Metuchen had cruised to a 6-1 victory over North Brunswick High School on Sept. 20 in Metuchen. That victory lifted Metuchen to a 6-0 record this season.
Metuchen’s players also have high expectations.
“We can’t play down to the competition,” junior midfielder Mya Stolarski said. “We have to play to our highest level.”
“We have to play clean,” Molly Walters, a senior who plays on defense, said. “We have to be more accurate up top.”
Metuchen has set some goals.
“I want to win the [Greater Middlesex Conference] Blue Division,” Stolarski said. “I want to go as far in states and counties as we can.”
“I want to win the Blue Division,” Walters said. “And as a team, [I want to] beat all of our records from last year. Of course, I also want to go far in states.”
The Bulldogs won again when they hosted Middlesex High School on Sept. 23 by a 4-2 score. The Bulldogs were scheduled to host John F. Kennedy Memorial High School of Iselin on Sept. 25.
Metuchen also plays at Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison on Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.
