EAST BRUNSWICK – The Unitarian Society (TUS) of East Brunswick welcomed its new music coordinator, a professional pianist, music director and vocal coach who has performed throughout the United States.

Nicholas Place joined on Sept. 10 at the congregation’s water ingathering service.

“Music is such an essential aspect of the Sunday morning experience, helping us to connect to something greater than ourselves – call it Mystery, the Divine, God, or Transcendence – often more so than words,” TUS minister Rev. Karen G. Johnston said in a prepared statement.  “I am excited at the synergy our partnership will bring about.”

Place previously served as pianist and organist at Boston’s historic Arlington Street Church, a Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregation.

“The community and togetherness in the UU church is an unique and warm one. I love it,” Price said in the statement.

Price was also a staff pianist in the musical theater and classical schools at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and served as a pianist and music director at the Pensacola Opera, where he was also involved in mainstage productions as assistant conductor and chorus master.

Place is currently a pianist and vocal coach at Rider University’s Westminster School of Fine and Performing Arts, where he works with musical theater students and directs theater productions. In the summer he is music director at Forestburgh Playhouse in New York’s Catskills region.

A native of Portland, Maine, Place holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Ithaca College and master’s degrees in piano performance and collaborative piano from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
