East Brunswick detectives save choking man

EAST BRUNSWICK – Detectives saved the life of a man who was choking while eating.

Dispatch advised members of the East Brunswick Police Department that there was a male choking and turning blue at a Merrill Avenue residence on Oct. 3, according to information provided by police.

Detectives Paul Jun and Dan Unkel found the 69-year-old victim on a kitchen chair with his wife present. He was reportedly unresponsive and his face was completely blue. The detectives took turns performing the Heimlich maneuver and eventually dislodged the food obstruction, according to police.

The victim began to breathe on his own and was further treated by Atlantic 11 Rescue Squad and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital medics before transport to the hospital.
