No exposures to rabid skunk reported in North Brunswick

NORTH BRUNSWICK – A skunk tested positive for rabies in the vicinity of Farrington Boulevard and Hoover Avenue.

A skunk was observed acting erratically in the area on Sept. 22, so local Animal Control responded to the site and secured the skunk, according to information provided by the Middlesex County Office of Health Services.

The skunk expired shortly after being secured by Animal Control and was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing, officials said. It was reported on Sept. 26 that the animal tested positive for rabies.

There are no confirmed or possible human exposures and no domestic animal exposures to the skunk, according to the statement.
