Two of the biggest rock and roll stars of the sixties will appear in concert at the Strand Center for the Arts in Lakewood Township on Oct. 13. The show, billed as “two concerts in one,” features the Lovin’ Spoonful and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, both featuring original recording members.

Headlining the concert will be one of the biggest American hit-makers of the era, The Lovin’ Spoonful. The group holds the distinction of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and just celebrated 50 years since their first hit, “Do You Believe in Magic?,” hit the charts in 1965.  The group splintered in 1969, but re-grouped in 1991 with three original members and has been criss-crossing the country ever since, keeping their unique blend of pop, rock and folk alive.

Gary Puckett and The Union Gap were one of the few acts that were able to sustain a career through the onslaught of the British Invasion and their songs like “Young Girl,” “Woman, Woman,” and “This Girl is a Woman Now.”

Gary and company had six consecutive gold records and sold more records in 1968 than any other act, including the Beatles.

The Lovin’ Spoonful and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap hit the Strand (400 Clifton Ave., Lakewood Township) for one night only on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m.  Tickets are priced from $37 to $69. Tickets can be purchased on-line through www.PopRockConcerts.com or by calling 732-367-7789.
