Teen electrocuted in Metuchen

METUCHEN — A 17-year-old Edison juvenile is still in critical care, but is stable after getting electrocuted by high voltage lines when he was climbing a steel railroad trestle behind St. Joseph’s High School, according to Police Lt. Arthur Flaherty.

Police received multiple 911 calls requesting medical assistance for a possible electrocution at 5:34 p.m. on Oct. 10, Police Chief David Irizarry said.

Officers responded to the railroad trestle, which is part of the Conrail railroad system.

Police located the juvenile and he was treated at the scene by paramedics. He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

An investigation revealed that the juvenile was climbing the steel railroad trestle when he came into contact with high voltage line that were located above the top of the trestle. The juvenile was electrocuted causing him to fall approximately 30 feet to the railroad tracks below.
