The South River Police Department, in partnership with the N.J. Motor Vehicle Commission, is conducting vehicle safety inspections near the intersection of Main Street and Devoe Street Street until approximately 12:30 p.m. today, Oct. 26.

The purpose of the inspections is to identify various vehicle safety violations including, but not limited to: uninspected motor vehicles, unapproved motorcycle helmets, unapproved vehicle equipment, cracked windshields, loud exhaust, improper color of lamps and non-functioning mandatory vehicle equipment.

The mobile inspection unit also affords the opportunity for passing motorists with uninspected motor vehicles or expiring motor vehicle inspections the opportunity to have them inspected on the spot, saving them a trip to a Motor Vehicle Commission facility.
