SAYREVILLE – The intersection at Main Street and White Oaks Lane in Sayreville is now safer for motorists and pedestrians with the addition of a new traffic signal and the completion of road improvements in the immediate area.

The $877,000 cost of this project was shared by the county and the Borough of Sayreville, according to information provided by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

In addition to the new traffic signal, improvements included the widening, milling and paving of roadways; drainage improvements; concrete curbs and sidewalks; and roadway and crosswalk striping, according to the statement.

“Now, Main Street and White Oaks Drive will be more navigable during all kinds of weather, easier to cross and safer to drive on. It’s a great example of our county’s continuing dedication to public safety,” Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios said during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 3. “I thank my Freeholder colleagues, our county staff, the Borough of Sayreville and New Jersey Department of Transportation for partnering on this project.”
