FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Incumbent Republicans Lester Preston and David Salkin have won three-year terms on the Township Committee in Freehold Township.
On Nov. 7, Preston and Salkin were re-elected, with Preston receiving 6,331 votes and Salkin receiving 6,244 votes. The Republicans turned back a challenge from Democrat Alexander Wisienski, who received 4,141 votes, according to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office.
The results are unofficial until they are certified by the county.
With the victory, Republicans will continue to hold all five committee seats in Freehold Township.
Preston, who is serving as mayor in 2017, is a lifelong resident of Freehold Township. He has been a member of the committee for two years.
“I am privileged to serve on our town’s governing body,” he said. “It has provided me the opportunity to meet and interact with many of the residents and staff who make Freehold Township such a great place to live and to raise a family. I am committed to the success of our town and those residents. I feel I can continue to use my life and work experiences to benefit our community.”
Issues that Preston said he intends to continue to address during his next three years on the governing body are taxes, affordable housing for senior residents and dealing with traffic.
Salkin, who is serving as deputy mayor in 2017, is a lifelong resident of Freehold Township. He has been a member of the committee for 23 years.
“I live, raise my family and work here in my hometown,” he said. “I love this place and it is a labor of love to continue working for Freehold Township’s residents. I still enjoy the job and the people, and believe that by serving my local government, in a small way, I’m serving my country.”
Salkin said he intends to continue working to keep the municipal tax rate stable.
