Allentown defeats Middletown South, 2-1, in Group 3 state girls’ soccer final at Kean University

The Allentown High School girls’ soccer team won its first state championship today, Nov. 18, when the Redbirds defeated Middletown High School South, 2-1, in the Group 3 tournament final at Kean University in Union.

Marin Hartshorn and Carly Roche each scored to spark Allentown’s championship effort. Christina Sundt scored for Middletown South, which advanced to the Group 3 title game after it beat the state’s No. 1 team, Northern Highlands Regional High School, 1-0, in the semifinals on Nov. 14.
