Millstone arranges transportation for seniors

MILLSTONE – The Township Committee has renewed a contract with Monmouth County that provides transportation for individuals who are unable to travel on their own.

On Nov. 1, committee members passed a resolution entering into an agreement with the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders for services from the Special Citizen Area Transportation (SCAT) program for 2018.

According to the resolution, the SCAT program is operated by the Monmouth County Division of Transportation and is for senior citizens and disabled residents of the county. Under the terms of the contract, the program also provides food shopping transportation with municipalities in the county.

Millstone officials have previously entered into SCAT agreements and intended to renew the contract for 2018 to provide services to residents, according to the resolution.

In other business, the committee hired Christopher Hart as a full-time maintenance custodian.

Hart was previously hired as a part-time maintenance custodian in July. According to the Nov. 1 resolution, officials determined the position needs to be full-time. His salary will remain at $14.50 per hour and he will have a 40-hour work week, according to the resolution.

Mayor Michael Kuczinski, Deputy Mayor Fiore Masci and committee members Gary Dorfman and Nancy Grbelja voted in favor of entering into the agreement with the county and hiring Hart. Committeeman Bob Kinsey was absent.
