Pedestrian killed, struck by multiple vehicles on Route 9 in Sayreville

SAYREVILLE – A pedestrian was killed on Nov. 18 when he was struck by multiple vehicles.

The man, whose identity has not been verified, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:06 p.m. as he was crossing Route 9 in Sayreville, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief John Zebrowski of the Sayreville Police Department.

The initial investigation by Sgt. John Bartlinski of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Don Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the initial impact was from a red Saturn SUV traveling in the fast lane of Route 9 north near the Starbucks, according to the statement. The man was reportedly struck and thrown by the vehicle and landed in the center lane of Route 9 south where he was then stuck by multiple vehicles including a black Mitsubishi sedan, police said.

Authorities are looking for additional vehicles that were involved in the fatal crash.

An autopsy is pending with the Middlesex County medical examiner.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information is asked should call Bartlinski at 732-525-5431 or Heck at 732-745-8842.
