‘Black and Blue’ to play at Woodbridge Middle School Dec. 1-2

Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center will present “Black and Blue,” a play about a police shooting, at 8 p.m. Dec. 1-2 at Woodbridge Middle School, 525 Barron Ave., Woodbridge.

Black and Blue traces the parallel lives of Alex, a young black man, and Mark, a young white man, as they grow up in the same suburban town in New Jersey. Empathetic and moving, the play follows their parents’ hopes and dreams for them, the boys’ disappointments and challenges, and, finally, the tragic and violent act that brings an end to one life.

Catherine LaMoreaux, Dragonfly’s artistic director, conducted interviews with community
members of all ethnic backgrounds to ground the play in a realistic and sensitive perspective on race issues. The play is both a call to action and a balanced look at a hot-button topic. Each performance will be followed by an audience discussion.

The play features Perry Award-Winning actress Diane L. Parker, actors Matt Holbert, Craig Mayer, and Shailendra Khurana. It is directed and was written by LaMoreaux.

Black and Blue was made possible in part by funds from the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders/Office of Culture and Heritage and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students, which are available for purchase at the door or online at https://www.dragonflyartsnj.com/purchase-tickets.
