Dey, Rivera elected to Jackson school board

JACKSON – Sharon Dey and Tara Rivera have been elected to three-year terms on the Jackson School District Board of Education.

Results from the Nov. 7 election show Dey received 6,801 votes and Rivera received 5,834 votes to win the seats. Elenor Hannum received 3,778 votes in her bid for a seat on the board.

Dey served on the board from 2007-16. She rejoined the board in August when she was appointed to fill an open seat. Her new three-year term will begin in January.

Prior to the election, Dey said she has experience with contract negotiations and the school budget. She said that as a board member, she helped to keep the budget under the 2 percent tax levy cap, established a full-day kindergarten program, and established STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), business, fine arts, performing arts and digital media academies, among other accomplishments.

Rivera, who was elected to her first term on the school board, said, “Thank you everyone for your support. I am looking forward to being an integral part of the Board of Education team.”
