EDISON — Some $22,518 was raised for the victims of the devastating hurricanes that struck the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas through the township’s “Eats for Relief” initiative in October.

The funds will be donated to the One America Appeal Fund established by the five former presidents to provide relief to the many victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

“This is what the Edison community is all about,” Mayor Thomas Lankey said. “Edison has a strong tradition of offering assistance and aid to others in need. Our business community and our residents came together during Eats For Relief to raise money for other Americans they do not know and never met.”

Eleven Edison restaurants contributed a portion of their daily earnings to Edison’s relief fund from Oct. 15-21. Those restaurants included Benihana on Parsonage Road; Bombay Spice II, La Bonbonniere, LouCas and Villa Gennaros, all on Route 27; Moghul and Ming on Oak Tree Road; Outback Steakhouse, Skylark Diner, and Zinburger on Route 1; and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza on Parsonage Road.

A dozen other eateries made direct contributions to Edison Eats for Relief including Akbar Banquet Hall on Cortlandt Street; Chef’s Table, Dragon Palace, Moghul Express Restaurant all on Oak Tree Road; Harold’s New York Deli, King Georges Post Road; Havana Central, Parsonage Road; Francesco’s Pizzeria, Woodbridge Avenue; Edison Diner, Soho Shabu-Shabu and all on Route 1; and Meemah Chinese-Malaysian Cuisine on Lincoln Highway.

Contributions from individuals, civic groups and businesses may still be made at www.oneamericaappeal.org.
