Charity bake sale to return for 11th year

The bake sale will be held from 7-10 p.m. Dec. 17; 1-10 p.m. Dec. 18; and noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 19, at AMF Strathmore Lanes, 1061 Route 34, Aberdeen Township.

Volunteers are being sought to support a bake sale that will help a child in medical need and the Frances Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization that provides assistance to families in need of financial help during a child’s battle against cancer.

The Frances Foundation is based in Holmdel.

Volunteers are needed to bake and donate cakes, cookies and candies for the 11th annual holiday bake sale sponsored by the Jamie Levy Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The bake sale will be held at AMF Strathmore Lanes, Route 34, Aberdeen Township, from 7-10 p.m. Dec. 15, 1-8 p.m. Dec. 16 and noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 17.

Wendy Levy, a director of the fund that is named in honor of her late daughter, said that in 2016, “We raised approximately $8,000 and were able to support the Valerie Fund’s Unterberg Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, the Jamie Levy Memorial Scholarship, and a child in medical need in our community.”

Levy said the bake sale has raised more than $50,000 since its inception.

Individuals who are interested in baking and/or donating any type of home-baked cakes, cookies and candies may contact Levy at wendy.s.levy@gmail.com for additional information.

Residents of all communities are invited to stop by Strathmore Lanes during the bake sale to make a donation or to make a purchase that will help to support children in medical need, Levy said.

The bake sale will continue to fund the Jamie Levy Memorial Scholarship for Volunteerism and Community Service.

Matawan Regional High School seniors who are planning to attend a two-year or four-year college are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Applications will be available through the high school’s Guidance Office and Naviance website.

Jamie Levy was the daughter of Wendy and David Levy, and the little sister of Joshua Levy.

Jamie was born in 1998 and at the age of 5 she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Three months after she graduated from kindergarten, Jamie passed away at the age of 6.

Levy said the scholarship presented in Jamie’s name recognizes high school seniors who go above and beyond the pursuit of academic excellence and give selflessly of their time to help others who are less fortunate.
