EAST BRUNSWICK – An anesthesiologist who practices in Middlesex and Somerset counties has had her license temporarily suspended due to incidents of “bizarre behavior.”
The State of New Jersey Department of Law & Public Safety Division of Consumer Affairs State Board of Medical Examiners ordered the temporary suspension of Dr. Sharon C. Worosilo in a document dated Nov. 9. She founded The New Jersey Pain Management Institute, which has locations at 579 Cranbury Road in East Brunswick and at 49 Veronica Ave. in Somerset.
Deputy Attorney Delia DeLisi opened the matter on Nov. 3, according to the document, because Worosilo allegedly “engaged in a pattern of bizarre and inappropriate behaviors, all of which demonstrate that her judgement – medical and otherwise – is severely impaired, to the point that she is incapable of discharging the functions of a physician in a manner consistent with the public’s healthy, safety and welfare.”
The alleged behaviors date back to June, which “strongly support a finding that she presently is suffering from impairment, which may be related to substance abuse, psychiatric illness and/or an undiagnosed and untreated mental illness,” the document states.
The complaints came to light because several patients contacted the Professional Assistance Program of New Jersey, according to the document. In more detailed incidents which reportedly occurred in October, Worosilo is accused of calling a patient a drug addict, yelling absurdities and waving a knife around in the reception area; threatening a patient with a battery; and attempting to perform epidural injections of the lumbar spine upon a patient while she was visibly impaired.
Worosilo did not appear before the board for her hearing because of a funeral, according to the document.
At Yale University, Worosilo completed a surgical internship followed by anesthesiology residency with sub-specialty training in pain management, for which she is board certified, according to the biography listed on her medical practice’s website. She received her medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and has been in practice for more than 20 years
In 1997, she founded The New Jersey Pain Management Institute. Since then, she has been named one of New Jersey’s Top Doctors in the field of pain management numerous times, according to her bio. She is also the past executive director of The New Jersey Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
She is affiliated with Raritan Bay Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
