Howell council introduces salary ordinances

HOWELL – The Township Council has introduced two ordinances amending and supplementing the salaries of municipal employees.

The ordinances were introduced on Nov. 21. A public hearing on each ordinance has been scheduled for Dec. 19. Municipal officials may vote on the ordinances following the public hearing.

According to the ordinance, police officers hired on or after Jan. 1, 2014 will be paid an annual salary of $35,000 during their time at the police academy, an annual salary of $40,764 during their probationary period with the Howell Police Department and $46,528 as their starting salary following their probationary period.

Police officers who were hired prior to Jan. 1, 2014 were paid $41,784 during their probationary period and $49,109 as their starting pay following their probationary period.

The second ordinance amends and supplements the salaries for certain officers and non-union positions in Howell.

The tax assessor will have a minimum salary of $50,000 and a maximum salary of $101,000. The municipal clerk will have a minimum salary of $65,000 and a maximum salary of $109,000. The tax collector will have a minimum salary of $50,000 and a maximum salary of $97,000. The human resources administrator  will have a minimum salary of $40,000 and a maximum salary of $76,000.

The 2017 salary for a Township Council member and the mayor is $7,500.
