Police believe traffic fatality in Monroe caused by hit-and-run

MONROE – Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in Monroe on Nov. 30.

Jose Cedillo, 44, of Elizabeth, was reportedly driving his 2017 Nissan Titan pickup truck on his way to work at Cooper Electric in Monroe, according to a statement provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Michael Lloyd of the Monroe Police Department.

The truck was found stopped at the corner of Applegarth Road and Forsgate Drive; Cedillo was found lying next to his vehicle, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene following the fatality, which occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m., police said.

While results of an autopsy are pending, it has been preliminarily determined that the victim was struck by another vehicle, according to the statement.

Police were alerted to the crash when a 911 call was received from a passerby who saw the victim lying next to his vehicle.
