SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The principal of South Brunswick High School is ensuring that all personnel are safe while the smoke alarm panel is being replaced.
While conducting a routine fire drill at the school on Dec. 1, the alarm panel had a malfunction, Principal Peter Varela said in a letter to parents.
“Upon this malfunction, the fire marshal was called to come to help us assess the situation. Working together (police, fire and school officials) with support of the alarm technician, the system was put back into operating mode. Until that time, the building was closed as everyone needed to make sure the system was working before having people back in the building,” he said in the statement.
The system fix was completed prior to SAT testing on Dec. 2, Varela said.
Though panel will be replaced this week, the fire marshal has ensured that the building is completely safe, Varela said in the statement.
“There is nothing that comes close to outweighing student and staff safety, which is why we have taken every safety precaution with the guidance and support of our South Brunswick fire marshal,” he said.
