EDISON — A 62-year-old Riverdale man, who was working as a state Department of Transportation contractor painting markings on a recently repaved section of Route 1, was fatally struck by a vehicle on Route 1 North near Forest Haven Boulevard, according to police.

The employee of Statewide Striping Corp., Parsippany, was crossing Route 1 in the designated crosswalk at 4:40 a.m. on Dec. 8 when he was fatally injured by an oncoming Suzuki SUV, said police Sgt. David Stern, the investigating officer.
