EDISON — The faculty and students at John Adams Middle School in Edison showcased how much they care for their community.
More than 300 students signed up and 30 teachers participated in a walk-a-thon on Nov. 8 to raise money for the non-profit Community Action Reaches Everyone (C.A.R.E.), Inc. organization.
“We raised almost $1,500 dollars for Edison families in need,” said Todd Pagel, a teacher at the school. “We wanted to raise money for local Edison residents who have [children] in our district and Edison CARE does just that. It was the most successful fundraiser in school history.”
Edison CARE’s primary goal is to reduce the socio-economic and emotional barriers affecting students in the township schools, according to its web site.
With the support of numerous companies, the success of the organization’s annual fall walk and support from the likes of John Adams Middle School, CARE has been able to provide help to more than 300 families with their specific needs.
The needs include furniture, glasses, prom dresses, groceries, school photographs, caps and gowns, scholarships for educational purposes and camps, gift certificates, transportation to hospitals and doctor appointments, school supplies and a holiday gathering.
CARE has also provided resources for families to successfully navigate through both school and life.
