Hazlet police charge suspects with alleged drug distribution

HAZLET–Police detectives charged two male suspects with allegedly distributing drugs in a school zone after a two-month investigation.

Detectives executed a search warrant at 281 Middle Road at 6:02 a.m. on Dec. 6, according to information provided by the Hazlet Police Department.

The investigation revealed that the homeowner and tenant were allegedly selling drugs out of the residence, which is located 10 doors away from the township police station and an equal distance to Middle Road School, according to police.

Inside the residence, detectives reportedly seized a quantity of heroin and prescription pills as well as paraphernalia, according to police.

One of the male suspects was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a hypodermic syringe.

The another male suspect was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, four counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic syringe.

“Let this be a message to the persons who think they’re going to sell drugs in Hazlet and get away with it. We will not tolerate this sort of behavior,” Deputy Chief Ted Wittke said in a prepared statement.

At the same time, police also charged another male suspect and a female suspect during the warrant execution. The male suspect, who is a Keyport resident, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. The female suspect was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.

All of the arrestees were released on their own recognizance, due to the state’s Bail Reform legislation‘s rules and procedures, according to Lt. Robert Mulligan.
