HOWELL – Jospeh Isola, the superintendent of schools in the Howell K-8 School District, took a moment during a recent meeting to congratulate the residents who won seats on the district’s Board of Education in the recent election.

Incumbents Al Miller and Denise Lowe, and newcomer Ira Thor won three-year terms on the board in the Nov. 7 election. Jennifer Okerson was elected to a one-year unexpired term.

“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Lowe on returning to the board for another term and I also want to congratulate Mr. Miller for his successful re-election campaign. … We want to welcome Ira and Jennifer … I am excited to welcome them on to our team,” Isola said.

Angel Sanchez, who was appointed to the board in July to fill an open seat, sought a three-year term on Nov. 7, but was unsuccessful in that bid.

“I want to thank (Sanchez) for his willingness to serve, his outstanding volunteerism and the passion he shows for the school district,” Isola said. “Mr. Sanchez, thank you for your willingness to be a really important partner on this board. We hope you remain active in our school work and we hope to see you on committees and in other forums. You are always a welcome partner in this forum, so thank you, sir.”

The board’s reorganization meeting is scheduled for Jan. 3.
